Gucci is a luxury fashion house based in Florence, Italy.Its product lines include handbags, ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, makeup, fragrances, and home decoration.Gucci was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci in Florence, Tuscany. Balenciaga is a luxury fashion house founded in 1917 by Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga in San Sebastian,Spain and currently based in Paris. Balenciaga had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was referred to as "the master of us all" by Christian Dior. His bubble skirts and odd, feminine, yet "modernistic" silhouettes became the trademarks of the house.Balenciaga closed in 1972 and was reopened under new ownership in 1986. Dior itself holds 42.36% shares of and 59.01% voting rights within LVMH.The company was founded in 1946 by French fashion designer Christian Dior, who was originally from Normandy. 5. Prada


Prada is an Italian luxury fashion house that was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada. It specializes in leather handbags, travel accessories, shoes, ready-to-wear, perfumes and other accessories The company was started in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as a leather goods shop – Fratelli Prada – in Milan, Italy. Initially, the shop sold animal goods and imported English steamer trunks and handbags.Mario Prada did not believe that women should have a role in business, and so he prevented female family members from entering his company. Ironically, Mario's son harbored no interest in the business, so it was Mario's daughter Luisa Prada who took the helm of Prada as his successor and ran it for almost twenty years. Her own daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company in 1970, eventually taking over for her mother in 1978.






6. Salvatore Ferragamo


Salvatore Ferragamo (5 June 1898 – 7 August 1960) was an Italian shoe designer and the founder of luxury goods high-end retailer Salvatore Ferragamo. An innovative shoe designer, Salvatore Ferragamo, established a reputation in the 1930s. In addition to experimenting with materials including kangaroo, crocodile, and fish skin, Ferragamo drew on historic inspiration for his shoes.The company is owned by the Ferragamo family, which in November 2006 included Salvatore's widow Wanda, five children, 23 grandchildren and other relatives. There is a rule that only three members of the family can work at the company, prompting fierce competition.
